“Live or Die Tryin’ is a powerful life story on the trials of a youth which contemplates who really holds the power in a dynamic where the weak few are preyed upon by the dominant. There’s comfort in shared pain, empathy in harrowing adversity and consolation in knowing that an injustice has been experienced and, often, overcome and for this, we sometimes we need a book that will give us a good cry. “Live or Die Tryin’ by Yahkhahnahn Ammi is one. Ammin deals boldly with many social issues in the 4Ds Dismiss, Discredit, Demonize, Destroy and more, the plight of immigrants, poverty and sexual slavery. However, Ammin’s personality and resilience shine throughout his tumultuous journey, giving this sorrowful tale an engaging momentum. This is a riveting and utterly convincing tale which draws the reader right into the heart of Ammin’s plight. It can be empowering to discover that our differences are what make us unique, and that our ability to endure hostility can make us stronger, but emotional wounds that result from bullying can be slow to heal. This book will cause a buried memory to resurface, makes you pine for a lost love or weep for the cruelty many people must endure. Prepare to be broken in the best possible way.”

Live or Die Tryin: My Journey to Freedom, Forgiveness, and Healing
Live or Die Tryin wasn’t just an event — for me, it was a reflection of my life’s journey. A journey marked by pain, growth, and the relentless pursuit of purpose. Every artist that touched the mic spoke truth to power, and in their lyrics, I saw pieces of my own story. The fight to be seen. The fight to be heard. The fight to break free.
There was a time I felt trapped — by trauma, by silence, by the weight of what others did to me and what I did to myself while trying to survive. I wore masks. I buried emotions. I stayed in places that broke me because healing felt like a fantasy. But just like the artists who stood on that stage and gave it everything they had, I made a choice: I chose to live.
Forgiveness was the first step. Not for them — but for me. For the little version of me that was just trying to make it. For the future me that deserved peace. And healing followed — slow, steady, and real. That night, in the room filled with raw emotion and unfiltered expression, I was reminded that we are all fighting for something. For many of us, it’s our sanity, our dreams, our freedom.
Live or Die Tryin mirrored the truth I now live by: You can’t heal what you hide. You can’t grow without facing what broke you. And you can’t be free until you choose yourself. I’m not who I was — I’m better. Stronger. Freer. And I’ll never stop fighting to stay that way.
